OLD MAPS

Although the map of Porrúa for which this Championship will take place is almost entirely new, like that of Llanes, there are previously used maps that are shown below

Training

On Thursday, the 18th there will be a Model Event in Porrúa from 12:00 a.m. The reservation of this map will be made through SICO at the same time that the registrations are made and will be delivered at the Llanes Competition Center.

This will also remain on the rest of the days and will serve as training in the relays and half distance.

The cost of this map will be € 1.

Recommendations

The use of long sleeves and long pants is recommended. The use of leggings is highly recommended.

Strictly forbidden to run with dogs, since there is a large amount of livestock in the area. Therefore, no one will be allowed to leave in the company of his dog, even if he is tied up.

Due to the time of the year in which we are and the large presence of cattle in the area, check the possible presence of ticks. It is recommended the use of repellents (must contain DEET or permethrin) and it is advisable to read the document edited by health of the Principality of Asturias on this subject. This document can be consulted through the link:

Foreclosed areas

The access of any participant to the area indicated in the following map is strictly prohibited:

It is also remembered that it is totally forbidden to access the urban area of Llanes with the old map, both in printed and digital format

Description of the land

CLASSIC RELAY AND MIDDLE DISTANCE

Karstic would be the best way to define it.

It is full of human elements related to livestock, with an orography with continuous depressions and hills of different sizes.

The vegetation will also be an element to take into account, abundant areas of gorse. Slab area and very broken rocky terrain.

There are also several deep chasms (some covered by vegetation), as well as cuttings and slopes of different heights.

SPRINT: LLANES

Race through the urban area of the town of Llanes.

With very varied and complete urban areas: more or less spacious streets, small and irregular streets, passages, parks and many pedestrian zones.

Areas with moderate unevenness.

Characteristic zones of a coastal town: beaches, cliffs, port, etc.

Karstic! It would be the fastest way to define what awaits us in the next CEO 2019 in Porrúa.

The land is full of human elements related to livestock (main activity in the area) with an orography with continuous depressions and hills of different sizes that will, surely, have to stop and think on more than one occasion, more if we have in mind that vegetation will also be an element to be taken into account.

The map was first made at a scale of 1: 10000 in 2 different stages of 2015 (February and December) by Spanish cartographers and revised in 2018, adapting it to the new regulations (isom 2017).

In our opinion it is a quite technical map both from the point of view of map reading and in the race technique itself.

From the point of view of map reading;

In the land there are numerous human elements, roads, walls, fences, houses, ruins … that can sometimes lead to confusion between one another, as well as rocky terrain and cut lines that make us pay more attention to these elements of the same color to identify them. The continuously undulating terrain will require a continuous interpretation of the contour lines to anticipate what we will find, up or down.

From the physical point of view;

In addition to the different degree of unevenness that we find in each route, there are areas where moving is very slow, areas of slabs and rocky terrain very broken (gray and dotted), and a good technique will allow us less wear. As for the vegetation, striped double (409) represent mostly areas with gorse that hinder transit and will be something to take into account in our decisions.

Special attention to areas of slabs and more broken ground as well as greater wear, if you do not use a good technique for this terrain, can be dangerous because of the configuration of the terrain. There are also several deep chasms (some slightly covered by vegetation), as well as cut and slopes of different heights.

We hope in any way that you enjoy both this CEO and us in the realization of the map.

Analyzing Llanes from the perspective of the sport of orientation, we can say that it gives rise to a very varied and complete urban plan. This is due to several of its characteristics:

On the one hand, it has urbanized areas whose streets run parallel and are more or less wide, but which constantly have crossings with other streets and different details that will not allow a second of distraction.

On the other hand, it has an important network of smaller streets and with an irregular distribution, which will cause the counselor, again, a maximum concentration and rapid decision making for changes in direction.

Another important aspect for the practice of our sport in Llanes is the fact of having a large pedestrian area, thus facilitating the carefree race with respect to traffic.

We do not have to leave aside nor forget the difference in level in Llanes, which is not strong, but already plays in certain areas for the use of stairs and areas with double heights, with and without access between them.

We also have important details such as the corridors, parks, corners, squares, etc. And obviously we do not have to forget the details and typical places of a coastal town, which will make us meet beaches, cliffs, the estuaries and its bridges, the port …

Details all of them that will enrich the layout of the routes.

And finally, we must remember the touristic character of Llanes, which will mean that during Holy Week there will be an important number of passers-by and people, who, like us, will be enjoying the streets, walks and corners of this wonderful town Asturian

CLASSICAL RELAYS AND A MIDDLE DISTANCE : Luis Miguel Martins Santos

In my 15 years tracing and posing tours, national championships in Portugal, world ranking events, etc, I have found all kinds of terrain. However, the terrain that you will find on the map of Porrúa Suroeste (media and relays) has unique properties. Very challenging and technical. Both the route choices between points, as well as the capacity of the riders making decisions, will be decisive for the results of the Spanish Championship.

I hope they are proof with sports justice, with good challenges for everyone. Win the best, but everyone can have fun and enjoy the tests.

Llanes, one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, for me and for the official list of “Most beautiful villages in Spain”, will not leave anyone indifferent.

A path where we can interject grass walks with amazing views, fast and linear urban area, pedestrian old town with narrow streets, roofed steps, many stairs, cliff areas, beaches, parks, a river, bridges, and footbridges, hermitages …

Well, that, in the sprint a very varied races await you, for the type of terrain in each moment, with many interesting choices of route, turns, changes of direction, asphalt, cobblestone, grass …

With some unevenness and not so fast areas, I have made a few shorter tests than a completely flat one, trying to adapt the races to a general interval of 12 to 14 minutes. That is, fast and without a minute of mental rest.

No artificial closure will be placed on any street and we will have 2 cardio-healthy equipment distributed on the map and indicated on it (equipment with defibrillators).

An impressive goal area and set to the maximum.

I do not know, I think a race that everyone will remember, a special sprint map and a spectacular Spanish Championship.

I hope you enjoy it and … that the best one wins!
